This Stata dataset includes data from the Latin American countries which took part in the 2022 PISA assessment (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay). The dataset is composed of individual observations for students. The data is already merged to allow for the implementation of the analysis of the related publication.
In the related paper, we study which variables are associated to a higher average performance of public schools in the region. Since the descriptive statistics show that private schools outperform public schools, but some public schools still manage to have a high average student performance, the paper implements logit models to assess what are the variables (such as average sense of belonging, class size, bullying) that are associated to a higher likelihood of belonging to the high performing group of public schools. The results show that a better school climate and more supportive school environment allow public schools to perform as high as private schools.
