This Stata dataset includes data from the Arab countries which took part in the 2021 PIRLS assessment (Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates). The dataset is composed of individual observations for students. The data is already merged to allow for the implementation of the analysis of the publication.
The analysis aims at comparing the perception of school climate for students and for school authorities (i.e., principals and teachers). First, the paper runs a linear regression to compare correlations between bullying and class disorder for students, to identify similarities in results. Afterwards, through Item Response Theory, the paper constructs two indicators of school climate based on responses provided by, respectively, students and principals/teachers. These indicators, together with other variables, are then averaged at the school level and regressed to identify the main correlates of school climate. The findings indicate that while most variables are consistent between the perception of school climate between students and school authorities, some differ - most notably, urban schools present a more difficult climate for students only.
