The dataset contains raw counts of pollen and selected local palynomorphs identified in 114 moss polsters collected in 2021 across the Polish part of Białowieża Forest (NE Poland). Counts are provided per sample as absolute numbers of palynomorphs observed under a light microscope, before calculation of pollen percentages or other transformations.
The moss polsters represent a range of forest habitats and environmental conditions within Białowieża Forest. They were collected as natural pollen traps and processed using standard palynological methods. The dataset includes arboreal pollen (AP), non-arboreal pollen (NAP), and selected local palynomorphs recorded during pollen analysis. Local palynomorphs are provided as primary observations but are not included in the AP + NAP pollen sum.
The dataset provides modern pollen data for investigating relationships between pollen assemblages and vegetation and environmental conditions in Białowieża Forest. It can be used as a modern reference dataset for ecological and palaeoecological studies and for evaluating the representation of forest vegetation and canopy conditions in pollen assemblages.
